Getting To Know: The WOLF at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort

An Insightful Interview With Ayeesha McKeany, Director of Marketing

By Brian Weis

Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Ayeesha McKeany who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.

Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property
Considered our "premier" course, the Wolf certainly lives up to its expectations. The newest layout of the bunch, the Wolf opened in 2001 and the first rounds were played by Karrie Webb and Annika Sorenstam for the Shell's Wonderful World of Golf. Touted as the longest course in Nevada, the layout promises an amazing golf experience due to the beauty of its natural surroundings. The course isn't just for the single digit handicapper as it has 5 tee options to choose from and will be suited for golfers of all skill levels.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course?
Smart golf is the key to this course. Layups and shooting for middle of greens are required on a lot of holes. Also, please keep in mind the pin location because many of the greens are tiered and being on the right level will be an advantage.

Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course?
The Wolf was named the #75 Best Resort Course nationally in 2015 by Golfweek Magazine, 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest and the #1 rated course in Las Vegas on GolfAdvisor.com

What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole?
This one's a no brainer....#15. Paiute's version of Pete Dye's infamous "Island Green." Only Pete can pull off the island green in the middle of the desert. The hole is simply breathtaking and something to experience in person. All the water can be intimidating but the large green is susceptible to some good scores.

What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It?
#15. Who doesn't like to say they've played on an island green? Also, if you are fortunate, why not boast about taming the island green????

Tips for the hole are easy....easier said than done. CLUB SELECTION. Make sure to get the right yardage to the pin since the green is fairly large. This green is tiered so being on the right level is a must. Visualize the water isn't there and swing freely...like I said, easier said then done.

Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole?
A nice cold beer and some Jalapeno Cilantro Chicken Wings! Don't forget to grab one of our delicious breakfast sandwiches and a tasty Bloody Mary before you head out! You won't regret it :)

Who Holds Course Record and What Was Their Score?
Karrie Webb, 64. We had her play against Annika Sorenstam in 2001 for the Shell's Wonderful World of Golf to open the course. Annika didn't do too shabby either, shooting a 65.
